Chandra Rajeswara Rao Foundation for Social Progress was established in 1994. The Neelam
Rajasekhara Reddy Research Centre was established as part of the Chandra Rajeswara Rao
Foundation for Social Progress to under take academic research and field studies in various
disciplines with a bearing on social, economic, political and cultural aspects with particular reference to the Indian context. The Centre endeavors to emerge as an institution devoted to the creative and critical study as well as the propagation of the ideas and ideals of socialist thought and practice.
Keeping these objectives in View, the following themes have been taken up for Research
< Socialism in the 21% Century.
* Problems of Communist Movement, National and International.
« Socio-Economic Conditions in selected areas of topical and enduring concern.
* History and Culture of Telugu speaking people with an added emphasis on social reform
movements.
* Class and Caste: Peculiarities of stratification in Indian Society.
* The challenges of Globalization and liberalization: A study of people’s alternatives.
« Gender Studies.
With a view to implement the aims and objectives worked out by the Executive Committee
of the CR Foundation for Social Progress, though we tried to form Seven Groups for the seven topics listed above, we were able to form only 5 groups with a coordinator to concentrate on activities concerned with that particular topic for which the group is constituted.
Chief coordinator: Sri Y.V. Krishna Rao
Subject | Coordinator |
Marxism Today | Prof. SG Kulkarni |
Problems of Communist Movement | Y.V. Krishna Rao & Prof. A.K. Patnaik |
Social and Economic Conditions | Prof. D. Narasimha Reddy |
Globalisation and Capitalism | M. Vijay Kumar |
Gender Studies | Dr. Lalitha Ramakrishna |
Though initially members of these groups expressed their willingness to work but subsequently they failed to do so. Though this framework was established after a lot of labour and persuasion, now the structure is not that active which we initially
expected.
The Research Centre conducted 14 Seminars, and workshops on various current topics and brought out 12 publications so far in English and Telugu. The Centre has felicitated Padmabhushan Prof Ch. Hanumantha Rao, Reputed Economist; Prof. Prabhat Patnaik, one of the topmost Marxist Economist of India, and Gnanapith Awardee Padma vibhushan Dr C Narayana Reddy. We have been observing the death anniversary of Com. Chandra Rajeswara Rao every year.
The Research Centre has already established close contact with a number of Academic people, Economists, Political Scientists, Sociologists and other faculties working in the several Universities and Research Centres in Hyderabad and elsewhere in the AP State and also in other states of our country. The Research Centre has prepared an ambitious schedule to organise a number of Seminars, Round Table Conferences and also to organise lectures by Eminent Personalities on Ideological, Political Socio-economic and cultural topics. We hope this Research Centre will establish its name in a short period and also its special importance. We are confident that this centre will prove its worth in identifying, studying and publishing relevant material to educate the people on the burning socio-economic political and cultural problems of the state and the country.
